As the winter weary weather continues to keep us bundled up in our warm weather gear, many of us are keeping an eye on the spring which is only a few weeks away. Just like our skincare and beauty routines, our hair care regimen needs to change whenever the season does. Here are some simple tips to help transition your curls from winter to spring:

Maintain your moisture needs by washing hair with a sulfate-free, moisturizing shampoo. Mixed Chicks Sulfate-Free Shampoo cleanses hair without stripping hair’s natural oils and moisture. It is also great for color-treated and keratin-treated hair.

Alleviate the dreaded frizzies that come with spring’s increased humidity, rain, wind and sun exposure. Coat curls with Mixed Chicks Leave-In Conditioner which saturates strands leaving curls defined, quenched and bouncy.

Get your damaged or dead ends trimmed in time for spring. Make an appointment with your stylist – preferably someone who is well-versed in caring for curly/wavy hair. Have your stylist trim the dead ends from your curls. Trimming your ends is the healthy way to encourage hair growth.

Scale back your deep conditioning treatments to just once a week. During the winter, we tend to ramp up our treatments in direct relation to the dry, cold weather that we experience throughout the winter season. Try Mixed Chicks Detangling Deep Conditioner. Apply to curls after washing hair and let sit for 20 minutes under a heated hood or a hot towel.

For those brisk spring days when you want to rock sleek, chic locks, be sure to use a straightening serum or product to aid in the straightening process. Mixed Chicks Straightening Serum helps smooth and protect strands from heat damage.

Spruce up your color for spring. Add rich bold highlights in beautiful shades of blonde, brown or red. Have your colorist play up your look with the ombré trend or opt for a few carefully woven highlights. If you’re ready for a total change, lighten your winter color at least two shades and be prepared for a bright and beautiful new you. For those of you who don’t want to commit to a color change, have your stylist add clip-ins. All of the Mixed Chicks products work well on weaves, wigs and extensions.

An excerpt from Naturally Curly’s interview with Bre Scullark…

On her current routine…
I don’t have to do much of anything… my options are a bit more limited now. It’s grown out to a really cute length from when we first cut it, and I love it! After washing and conditioning, I just use a leave-in conditioner, grease my scalp, and go. I don’t even use gel anymore. My virgin hair is growing in so nicely, I can’t even tell you how thick this afro is on my head!

On her must-have products…
I love, love, love Mixed Chicks! I love anything that is cream based…and I love olive oil too… I add it to all of my conditioners, and leave it in my hair.

My Favs:
•Mixed Chick’s Gloss and Shining Hair Serum (adds sheen to hair without weighing it down. I apply it to wet, dry, or damp hair.)
•Mixed Chick’s Leave in Conditioner (I leave this in my hair, in place of gel)
•Mixed Chick’s Detangling Deep Conditioner (I leave this in for 15 minutes)
