Mixed Chicks History Month – The Rock – Dwayne Johnson

by Linda Ripoll in News on 23rd May 2014

Our Mixed Chicks History Month person of distinction today is a Mixed Man we all just cannot get enough. The Rock aka Dwayne Johnson is one of the biggest action stars on the planet and with his larger than life persona and even bigger biceps, the former wrestler will always be on the top of our list!

Born in Hayward, California but raised in Hawaii, Johnson is half Samoan, half African American and 100% his father’s son. Johnson’s father was a famous African American wrestler Rocky Johnson.

After playing football for the University of Miami, he tried out for the NFL but was overlooked. Instead of getting down on himself, he put his efforts into wrestling and within a few years made his debut in the WWF as Rocky Maivia.

The Rock was born a short year later after fans reactions to his Rocky Maivia character didn’t seem to pan out as well as Johnson had hoped.

Over the years, The Rock dominated the WWF with his storylines, antics and over the top character. With the success of his wrestling career fueling him – he made a move into the world of acting with a hosting appearance on Saturday Night Live and soon thereafter his acting career took off!

From “The Scorpion King” to “The Fast & the Furious 6”, The Rock is a worldwide action star who is paving the way for multiracial actors and actresses in Hollywood!

We salute The Rock for being a beautiful example of a hard-working, talented Mixed Man who represents the mixed race community with integrity, talent and most of all grace.
