Today’s mixed chick is the critically acclaimed, internationally celebrated political activist and artist Frida Kahlo. Born and raised in a small town outside of Mexico City, Frida’s father was of German and Jewish ancestry while her mother was Native American and Spanish. At the age of 18, she suffered a tragic accident that altered her life forever. During her recovery from this life-changing accident she began to express herself via art and painting. Known for her self-portraits and surrealist take on the politically charged world around her, Frida never played it safe. She married equally celebrated artist Diego Rivera and the two created hundreds of unique works over the years together. She passed away in 1954 and left the legacy of her incredibly expressive artwork behind for the world to enjoy and ponder.
